Pitru Paksha (पितृ पक्ष) is a 16-day period in the lunar calendar dedicated to honoring ancestors (Pitrs) through Shraddha and Tarpan rituals, each day corresponding to a specific tithi.
Performing Shraddha on the tithi matching an ancestor's date of death is considered most appropriate; those whose date is unknown are remembered on Sarva Pitru Amavasya, the final day of the period.
Starting new auspicious ventures, weddings, or major purchases is traditionally avoided during this period.
