Sankashti Chaturthi (सङ्कष्टी चतुर्थी) is the fourth lunar day of the Krishna Paksha (waning phase), observed every month in honor of Lord Ganesha.
Devotees fast through the day to seek the removal of obstacles (Vighna Vinashaka) and traditionally break the fast after sighting the moon in the evening.
Grains and cereals are typically avoided. The fast is broken only after Chandra Darshan (moonrise sighting), with a formal Argha offering to the Moon.
