Purnima (पूर्णिमा) is the Full Moon day in the Hindu lunar calendar. It marks the end of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon).
Purnima is deeply associated with Lord Satyanarayana (Vishnu). Devotees observe a strict fast from sunrise until they sight the full moon in the evening.
Salt, grains, and tamasic foods are avoided. Fast is usually broken with fruits or milk after sighting the moon.
